DR JOHN HOWE

FOR SENATE DISTRICT 6

My Positions

Constitutional Freedoms

I am passionate about our constitutionally protected freedoms. I cannot stress the importance of teaching true American history, respect for our heritage and the importance of education in protecting the freedoms granted within that history.

Government Mandates

Education is the key to our future and parents must play a significant part in shaping tjhat future. Rush Limbaugh used to talk about shaping the young minds of mush. PARENTS must have control over the education of their children and ensure those young minds contain more than mush. Let’s get back to education teaching reading, writing, arithmetic and civics. Education mandates are bankrupting school districts. Our state must do better for our students.

Education

There is a time to put government back in its place and that time is now. Government continues to expand its power while stepping on our individual freedoms. Federal expansion needs to be challenged by exercising state’s rights. There may be a “Free State of Florida. I want a Free State of Minnesota. Help me work toward it.

Election Integrity

It is hard not to remember the issues raised in recent elections. We MUST have faith in our election system. I want to be a part of efforts to put into law items such as voter ID and signature verification. Provisional balloting which will allow ballots to be segretated until verified is a must. Absentee voting should be the only method of casting a vote before election day. Also, there is no reason to have election week or election month. It is ELECTION DAY.

Second Amendment

As a NRA Life Benefactor Member, NRA Range Safety Officer, Life Member of the Deer Hunters Association, a NRA certified instructor for basic pistol, home firearm safety and personal defense and previous DNR bow hunter safety instructor, there should be no doubt where I stand on the Second Amendment. It is our right to keep and bear arms that provides protection from a tyrannical government, allows us to protect our home and families and protects our Constitutional Freedoms.

Environment and Natural Resources

I live in this area beause I love it—every inch of it. I want it protected while we responsibly use and enjoy it. Forestry and mining are important to this area. It makes no sense to limit our mining and mineral industries while we purchase minerals from areas that cannot and will not protect the environment as we do. While renewable energy sources may be a component of our energy plan, the importance of fossil fuels cannot be overlooked. Let’s continue to protect our environment and natural resources as we encourage mining, timber and tourism activities. We know how to do it.
